This property was enumerated in the year 1890-1891 as a "Pottery" owned by Lucien Gex. Although described as a "Commercial Cooperage Co." on the 1885 Sanborn Map, the fire iron chimneys and furnaces would have been conducive to a pottery kiln. Pottery sherds including kiln furniture, biscuit ware, and test sherds were excavated on this property during archaeological data recovery in 2010. Additionally, Lucien Gex was a potter known for the brief pottery operation called "Porcelain Works" off of Carondelet Walk and Rocheblave.
