Mortuary notice dated to November 6, 1889, describes Lena to be born Lena Joseph, wife of Frank Aufmkolk, and a native of New Orleans (the census record indicate that she was born in Alsace, but could be perhaps an error, or perhaps she moved when very young). Invited to her funeral were friends and acquaintences, and members of the German Louisiana Draymen's Association, the Mariners' M.A.P. Association, and Germania Lodge No. 46, F.A.M., as well as her son-in-law, Frank C. Meyers.
